Carlisle's award-winning parks are ideal places to relax, get active with a game of football or tennis, or discover more about the fascinating history of the city.
Several parks are within easy walking distance of the city centre, including Rickerby Park with its links to Hadrian's Wall, and Bitts Park with its children's play areas, Japanese gardens and ornamental lawns. Others, such as Hammond's Pond and Chance's Park, are further afield.
In addition to the parks, there are many green open spaces throughout Carlisle - perfect for enjoying a leisurely stroll, a kickabout with friends or even an ice cream in the shade!

The formal gardens of Bitts Park contain flower beds, lawns and a statue of Queen Victoria. The park offers opportunities for relaxation, play and sports.

A 65-acre lake amid 120 acres of farmland. Visitors can sail, windsurf, canoe or hire a rowing boat, pike fishing, play area and tearoom. Regular events throughout the year. Log cabin available to hire for meetings.

Rickerby Park is a living memorial to the fallen of the First World War. The Cenotaph stands in silent tribute whilst cattle and sheep graze beneath parkland trees.

A former brick-pit, Hammond's Pond was developed in the 1920's as Pleasureland by local resident Archie Hammond. Today the park provides a variety of outdoor opportunites for enjoyment.

Chance's Park was gifted to the citizens of Carlisle by the prominent Chance family in 1944. Some of the original features remain from the landscaped parkland that was laid out around Morton Manor in the late 1700's.
